Best Western International, THE WORLD'S LARGEST HOTEL CHAIN®, announced today the promotions of Glenn de Souza to Vice President of International Operations, Asia; and Paul Halpenny to Managing Director International Member Services, Europe.
In his new role, de Souza will be responsible for the management, development and expansion of the Best Western brand throughout Asia and will work closely with William Dong, the Chief Representative for Greater China who oversees the branding efforts in China. He will continue his sales and marketing responsibilities for the region. De Souza will report to Best Western President and CEO David Kong. As Managing Director International Member Services, Europe, Halpenny will oversee Best Western’s operations in Denmark and Ireland with an emphasis in brand development in both markets. He will report to Suzi Yoder, Vice President of International Operations stationed in Dublin.
"Glenn and Paul have been instrumental in building out Best Western’s global footprint," said Kong. "Their proven leadership, industry expertise and excellent business acumen will play an integral part in our continued international development plans."
With nearly 30 years of hotel experience, de Souza most recently served as Best Western's Managing Director for Asia. Since Oct. 2003, he has led development as well as sales and marketing efforts for the region while supervising the implementation of member support programs and services. Prior to joining the company in April 2002, de Souza held numerous managerial positions with such brands as Accor, Omni Hotels, Sheraton and Holiday Inn International. He is based in Bangkok.
Halpenny joined Best Western in 2001 as Director of Operations in Europe and was instrumental in establishing its European office. His previous industry experience includes work with the Fitzpatrick Hotel Group, the Sheraton Hotel Group, the Quinn Group, and the Irish National Tourist Board. Halpenny has also successfully opened and operated his own restaurant in Dublin, where he is based.
