Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo officially opened its doors today in the heart of the historic Nihonbashi district of Tokyo, marking the arrival of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s first hotel in Japan. With a superb location in the city’s prestigious financial district, Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo brings contemporary luxury to the historical and cultural centre of Tokyo. True to its surroundings, the first Mandarin Oriental hotel in Japan dynamically blends the best of architecture old and new, with spacious guestrooms and innovative restaurants and spa facilities situated on the top nine floors of the soaring new Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower which sits adjacent to the Mitsui Main Building, a cultural heritage property.
“Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo is set to become one of Japan’s most legendary establishments. Positioned above the bright lights of Nihonbashi, in this beautifully designed building created by Cesar Pelli, our luxury hotel will enjoy a prime location and will appeal to a discerning audience of business and leisure clientele, both from Japan and from around the world, ” said Mandarin Oriental’s Group Chief Executive, Edouard Ettedgui. “This is the first foray for our Group into Japan, which is an important outbound market for Mandarin Oriental hotels around the world. The opening of this hotel in Tokyo, recognized globally as a major world city as well as being the largest financial centre in Asia, will significantly enhance our portfolio in this region and amongst the Japanese community,” he added.
The elegantly designed hotel occupies the top nine floors of Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower, and affords spectacular panoramic views of the Tokyo metropolis. All 179 luxuriously appointed guestrooms and suites are designed to exude harmony and serenity, and set a contemporary mood that simultaneously reflects Japan’s timeless artisanship. The oversized guestrooms range from 50 to 60 square metres, while the opulent suites range from 90 to 250 square metres. Setting new standards for in-room entertainment technology, the guestrooms are the first in Japan to feature 45-inch flat screen high-vision televisions with 2.1ch virtual surround sound for unparalleled viewing enjoyment. In addition to 58 cable TV channels including digital broadcast, guests can also enjoy DVDs from their own collection, as well high-speed Internet access on the state-of the-art screens. Enhancing the rooms with the ultimate in convenience, guests can also access text messages, faxes, voicemail, and hotel billings via television.
Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo’s exciting and innovative lineup of seven new restaurants and bars is set to become Tokyo’s next wining and dining sensation. Six of the outlets are situated on the topmost floors of the Cesar Pelli-designed tower, offering guests sweeping views of the city including Tokyo Bay to the South and East, and the Imperial Gardens to the West.
