Jan Mönkedieck has been appointed general manager of one of Egypt's finest hotels, the Conrad Cairo.

Mönkedieck joins Cairo from his previous position as general manager of the Conrad Tokyo, which he opened with great success earlier this year, and has since established itself as a leading hotel in the Tokyo market.

A German national, Mönkedieck, has eighteen years of experience in the hotel industry. He graduated in Hotel Management and commenced his international career with Hilton International in Europe, between Munich and London, where he worked for one of Hilton's flagship hotels, the Langham Hilton. He moved to Asia in 1994 for New World Hotels in Hong Kong, and then transferred to Rangoon (Burma) and Shanghai (China), to finally re-join Hilton International at the Hilton in Shanghai. Mönkedieck also worked on the pre-opening of the Hilton Bangalore (India) and re-branded the Grand Hilton Seoul (Korea). Prior to moving to Tokyo, Mönkedieck was General Manager of the Hilton Dubai Creek, the renowned boutique hotel, famous for its contemporary art and style in products and services.

Clem Barter, President of Conrad Hotels commented: "Conrad Hotels is delighted to welcome Jan to Cairo and we wish him every success in this new role. His experience will be a great asset to ensure the successful management and development of our established Cairo hotel."

Mönkedieck added: "It is an exciting opportunity to move to the historical city of Cairo and return to the Middle East in a larger property with many new business opportunities. The Conrad Cairo has an excellent reputation in the Middle East and I will make sure I offer even more inspirational leadership to this strategic hotel."

The Conrad Cairo opened in 1999 as the third Conrad property in Egypt after Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh. Located in the heart of the city, it offers convenient access to the business district and the local attractions, including the Egyptian Museum, the Citadel and the great Pyramids of Giza. The Conrad Cairo has 617 spacious guestrooms, including 52 suites with two presidential suites. Each room provides a private balcony with a view of the Nile. The Conrad Cairo offers six restaurants and bars, in addition to an executive lounge, available for the premium rooms. A comprehensive health club with spa facilities and an attractive outdoor swimming pool is available to all residents. The hotel is also equipped with a self-managed casino, a business centre and a shopping arcade.

Mönkedieck is married with one child. Both he and his wife are keen travellers and enjoy exploring new countries and cultures. Mönkedieck holds a private pilot's licence and flies single engine airplanes on weekends.
