The Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis today announced that it has completed its conversion to become a 100 percent smoke free facility, including all public areas, meeting rooms and guestrooms. The month-long extensive cleaning process – including shampooing carpet and upholstered furniture, dry cleaning, painting, and other deep cleaning – focused on converting approximately 30 guestrooms to be smoke-free at an investment of more than $15,000.
“Our decision to become 100 percent smoke-free reflects our commitment to providing guests with a clean, comfortable and healthy stay,” said Judith Kalfon, general manager of the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis. “The conversion is a significant enhancement for the hotel and another example of how the Plaza is maintaining its reputation as a hotel of choice for people visiting Minneapolis.”
In addition to the smoke-free conversion, the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis has undergone several recent updates, including a major renovation of all guest rooms and public meeting areas. The Radisson Plaza features more than 19,000 square feet of newly renovated meeting space – from the brand new Fjord conference room to the opulent Scandinavian Ballroom. Leisure travelers also have plenty to enjoy at the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis including the updated 17th Floor Health Club, the award-winning Fire Lake Grill and Cocktail bar, and refurbished Plaza Club level, offering a concierge lounge, deluxe continental breakfast and other premium amenities.
The hotel was developed by Carlson founder Curtis L. Carlson on the site of the original Radisson Hotel. He acquired the hotel in 1962, which was later razed in the 1980’s to build the Radisson Plaza Hotel. The hotel was developed as part of the $108 million Plaza VII development with a 325,000 square foot office tower, to meet the city’s demand for more meeting space, larger contemporary guest rooms and more expansive parking facilities. The Radisson Plaza is company-owned and managed and helped spur the hotel chain’s rapid expansion to nearly 400 hotels in 66 countries.
Radisson Hotels & Resorts®, one of the world’s leading, full-service hotel companies, offers warm and engaging genuine hospitality at every point of guest contact and is focused on being the hotel of choice with business and leisure travelers by understanding their independent mindset, changing needs and desire to have more control over their hotel experience.
Radisson is continuing to evolve the brand, introducing new product and service standards to enable guest choice. Radisson recently introduced Express Yourself, the first online check-in service in the hotel industry that enables guest to pre-check-in online up to seven days prior to their stay and note key service preferences.
