Golden Tulip expands and takes over Hotel de Wageningse Berg

Amersfoort (NL)/Lausanne (CH), 25 October 2005 – Golden Tulip is proud to announce the signing of the lease agreement (duration till January 1st 2024 + 15 optional years) between Golden Tulip and the Westermeijer Group for the hotel “de Wageningse Berg”. As per 1st December 2005, the hotel will be operated by Golden Tulip and will be rebranded to become the Golden Tulip Wageningen

Starting 1st March 2006, the hotel will undergo a ten months renovation period of refurbishment, an expansion from 53 to 91 rooms, and will be upgraded from a three star to a four star property. The expansions of the bedrooms will occur within the existing construction area and with the maximum allowed building height. As per January 1st 2007, the Golden Tulip Wageningen, will offer the following facilities:
- 91 superior first class hotel rooms
- An a la carte restaurant
- A Spa and health center
- A state of the art meeting center,
- A party center, called “de Wageningse Berg”
- A magnificent terrace with impressive view of the Rhine river
- A comfortable lounge/bar.

For meetings, trainings and conferences, the Golden Tulip Wageningen will provide 22 professional conference rooms and a variety of rooms for party's en special occasions.

The Golden Tulip Wageningen is situated on the outskirts of the city centre on the “Wageningse hill” with peacefull surroundings. Wageningen is the agricultural centre of The Netherlands hosting the famous Agricultural University and Research Centre of Wageningen as well as renowned Agri-Businesses.

Johan Westermeijer, of the Westermeijer Group, states: “I am very pleased to sign this agreement with Golden Tulip Hospitality Management. In today’s climate, there is a strong need for rationalizing hotel operations and with the strong presence the Golden Tulip brand has in this area, I feel my hotel will be in a good position to continue delivering positive returns and subsequently increase its property value.”

Hans Kennedie, managing director & chief executive officer of Golden Tulip Hotels, Inns & Resorts, adds: “Golden Tulip is very proud of this new addition. Golden Tulip is in the process of redefining its concepts and ensuring that the hotel operations are customer focused, efficient and financially viable. Golden Tulip Wageningen will be equipped with our latest concepts and systems, which in combination with the spectacular location of the hotel, will lead to enhanced value to the owners of the hotel, the Westermeijer Group.”

The municipality of Wageningen is very optimistic with the arrival of the four star hotel Golden Tulip Wageningen. Members of the executive committee react enthusiastically: “the hotel signifies an economic gain for the city and suits perfectly within Wageningen’s profile of a city of life sciences. The arrival of this hotel complements perfectly to the growing demand for congress- and hotel facilities from the business life and companies from the region. Moreover, the view to the water meadows and uniquely located in the centre of the natural area “Centraal Veluwe Natuurgebied”, provides tourist visitors of Wageningen a pleasant stay.”

The design for the new hotel has been developed within the frames of the construction plan. The municipality of Wageningen will accompany Golden Tulip and the Westermeijer Group for the coming months by appointing a specific account manager for this project.
