The restaurant was originally the dining hall for the sophisticated officials of the coal mining company. Today it is a favorite among many locals, and an attractive place for visitors.
Our wine cellar also holds a wonderful collection of vintage wines. The wine list rises to all occasions and contains many different wines from a broad selection of producers with one of the best selection of champagne in the Nordic countries.
We take pride in our work and are seeking the right individual. You have a strong passion for your craft, minimum 3 years of experience and master the basics. DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB
The Sommelier - Waiter oversees the sale and service of food and wines in the restaurant. He/she also helps the Head Sommelier and the 1st Bartender to manage the wine and champagne cellars and the bar. The Sommelier - Waiter conveys the image of the restaurant through their exemplary attitude, warm and friendly welcome, professionalism, and knowledge.
PROFILE REQUIRED
▪ In-depth knowledge of the rules and techniques of service. ▪ Good interpersonal skills and a perfect mastery of customer relationship codes. ▪ A mastery of subtle taste and smell are the first qualities to possess to develop skills in wine knowledge and quality discernment. ▪ Curiosity and open-mindedness are necessary to follow developments in the establishment's cuisine and discover new trends beyond the "great classics". ▪ Pedagogy: the sommelier must have a taste for sharing their knowledge. ▪ Good memory: the sommelier must have in their memory all the wines on the list. ▪ The practice of English or more foreign languages is recommended to advise clients.

The hotel has undergone a major renovation, and new stories are ready to be told. We offer one of Northern Europe's most impressive wine cellars, hosting some hidden gems for the fine palate.
A HISTORICAL HOTEL
The hotel was originally built as an accommodation and dining area for employees of Store Norske Spitsbergen Coal Company. It was also the company’s official representational building. Its interior and architecture made it Longyearbyen’s grandest construction. The hotel is preserved and decorated using its history. It's well worth walking through the corridors and public areas to look at the historical photographs, old maps and newspaper stories.
The hotel has 88 rooms, including 59 double rooms, 10 twin rooms, 14 single rooms, 4 suites and a handicapp room.
FUNKTIONÆRMESSEN RESTAURANT
On the second floor of Funken Lodge you will find Funktionærmessen Restaurant. Inspired by international cuisine, the restaurant only uses the best ingredients and offers a dining experience like no other in Longyearbyen.
King crab from Finnmark, dry-aged meat and reindeer from the neighborhood are some of the culinary delights. The grill is a key element in the preparation of the dishes, and after tasting the food you will think the chefs have been practicing a little bit of magic in the kitchen. Combined with the stunning panoramic views of the city, the Longyear glacier and the Hiorth mountain, an award-winning dining experience is guaranteed.
Funktionærmessen Restaurant has a renowned history, and the place has always been associated with high quality. It was here that the mining company's functionaries had their meals, enjoying the panoramic views. The restaurant has a new menu and interior, but the history, the view and the good quality remain untouched.

Welcome to the hotel’s cozy lounge bar and it’s dreamy polar library. Here our guests can take a deep dive into Arctic literature and return to Nansen and Amundsen's time while enjoying a delicious signature drink. Perhaps you'll also get inspiration for your own Arctic adventure?
DET GAMLE NORDPOLET
The Old Wine Monopoly from 1954 has been refurbished, and we now offer unique wine and champagne tastings. In this room, where miners and officials picked up their monthly quota of alcohol, our guests can get a private tasting of our exclusive Champagne selection. Our champagne menu is extensive and includes a wide number of producers and distinctive labels.
