Paris is a city that is always on the move, where luxury and culture intertwine on every street corner. From its restaurants to its hotels, the capital is adorned with a constellation of stars to delight visitors from all over the world, for renowned events such as Fashion Week, or for a simple stroll through the city's history. Known for its museums and monuments, Paris is also a city renowned for its refined properties, including more than a dozen five-star hotels bearing the ‘Palace’ distinction.

Close to the ‘most beautiful avenue in the world’, surrounded by other luxury hotels, the Four Seasons George V stands majestically, eight storeys high, in the middle of the avenue from which it takes its name. The property, which has held the ‘Palace’ distinction since 2011, is discreet on the outside, but within its walls it offers Michelin-starred cuisine, from its rooms to its tables.

Built and opened in 1928, the George V was originally the shared vision of the American architect Joel Hillman and two Frenchmen, André Terrail and Georges Wybo, the latter being responsible for the design of the Deauville casino and the new Printemps Haussmann department store after it was destroyed by fire in 1921. After leaving the bank due to the stock market crash of 1929, hotelier François Dupré, future owner of the Plaza Athénée in 1933, became the owner for almost 30 years. After two successive buyouts, Saudi Prince Al-Walid acquired the George V in 1997 and handed over the management of the hotel business to the Four Seasons group, which renovated it for its reopening in its current form in 1999.

Its location and its ‘art deco’ building, with its fine, refined features, quickly made it an unmissable address for fashionable artists throughout the 20th century, and still today: the Beatles, Cary Grant, Marlene Dietrich, then Rihanna and Beyonce. Stars who appreciate the stars that the hotel highlights: the five relating to accommodation, guaranteeing a flawless stay, but also the six that reward the quality of the dishes served in the property's three restaurants. A record for a French hotel or palace. Le Journal des Palaces has pushed open the doors of this property with its stellar reputation.

Gastronomy at the heart of the George V

In the prestigious setting of the Four Seasons George V, three exceptional restaurants invite you to a unique culinary experience, where refinement meets bold flavours. Arranged around the hotel's square courtyard, they form a coherent whole, yet are very distinct from each other.

The three-starred Cinq, under the direction of chef Christian Le Squer, embodies the very essence of French haute cuisine. In a classically inspired setting, enhanced by sparkling chandeliers and spectacular floral arrangements, the restaurant offers a culinary and gastronomic score of absolute precision in the evening. Each plate, designed like a work of art, showcases French local produce in signature compositions: line-caught sea bass, caviar, ‘lait ribot de mon enfance’ (buttermilk from my childhood), ‘spaghetti debout en gratin’ (spaghetti standing up in a gratin); or sweet treats. A meticulous ballet orchestrated by a brigade of excellence, where know-how is combined with an exceptional cellar of 50,000 bottles, selected by head sommelier Éric Beaumard.

More intimate, L'Orangerie, with two Michelin stars, offers modern and light cuisine, where vegetable products hold a special place, as do seafood products. In a veranda bathed in light thanks to its majestic glass roof, and in a setting recently redesigned by the architect Pierre-Yves Rochon, chef Alan Taudon creates light and daring dishes, playing on textures and contrasts, for only 18 privileged guests. Natural flavours are skilfully enhanced, in a perfect balance between finesse and innovation. An address where delicacies are expressed with subtlety, in tune with the seasons, every day for dinner.

Finally, Le George, with one Michelin star, celebrates convivial and generous Mediterranean cuisine under the leadership of chef Simone Zanoni, in a large, bright room decorated in light colours. Inspired by the flavours of Italy and the Riviera, the restaurant offers dishes to share, combining freshness and indulgence, in a more relaxed atmosphere than most of the capital's starred restaurants. ‘Beetroot carpaccio, raspberries, hazelnuts, goat's cheese’, “braised veal agnolotti, oyster mushrooms, full-bodied jus” or “pistachio semi Fredo, herbs from my garden, citrus sorbet”, each mouthful transports guests to the sunny shores of the Italian peninsula. In a chic and cosy atmosphere, where elegance rubs shoulders with relaxation, Le George embodies the Italian way of life, in the heart of one of the most beautiful Parisian palaces.

In addition to the Four Seasons George V's six stars, hotel guests can enjoy the Gallery at any time of the day for a bite to eat or a coffee, with a menu also devised by chef Taudon, ably assisted by pastry chef Michael Bartocetti and head baker Guillaume Cabrol. Ideal for an informal meeting or a gourmet break during the famous tea time, the restaurant is adorned with tapestries and 19th-century works of art, creating a cocoon of elegance and refinement.

Finally, the palace has a bar with dark wood panelling, velvet armchairs and contemporary touches, creating a cosy and sophisticated setting. The menu offers a wide selection of signature cocktails, created by a team of expert mixologists, as well as a fine selection of rare spirits and fine wines. There is also a range of refined snacks, perfect to accompany a drink at the beginning or end of the evening.

Blue, yellow and green in the rooms

On the upper floors, the 244 rooms and suites of the George V are divided into 13 categories, ranging from 37m2 to 245 m2. Currently undergoing renovation, the hotel wants to enlarge them to offer more spacious and comfortable spaces. All are available in three distinct colours: blue, yellow or green.

The premier, deluxe and superior rooms combine the charm of Parisian hotels with modern comfort. Large and bright, they are decorated in a classic style with soft tones and refined furniture. Every detail has been considered to offer a unique experience: high-end bedding, marble bathroom with separate bath and shower, office area, and a view of the inner courtyard or the city. Some rooms also have a private balcony, offering a privileged glimpse of Parisian architecture. Objects that are usually found in a house are scattered here and there in the rooms to give guests that feeling of ‘home’. Attention to detail is always the order of the day, with a ‘My Bar’ alcove in some of the renovated rooms, so that guests can prepare their cocktails directly from their living room.

The ‘classic’ suites all have a living room separate from the sleeping area, ideal for entertaining or relaxing, and a sophisticated decor combining antiques, works of art and contemporary touches. With breathtaking views of Paris, some overlook Avenue George V, others the Eiffel Tower or the Parisian rooftops. Others even offer a ‘duplex’ space, with a view of the capital's monuments.

The exceptional suites, of which there are five, offer sumptuous spaces and unique panoramic views of Paris. The Presidential Suite, located on a high floor, embodies discreet luxury with its independent living room, private dining room and custom-made dressing room, all enhanced by a decor combining period furniture and contemporary touches. In a more classical style, the Royal Royal Suite pays homage to 18th-century apartments, with its carved woodwork, crystal chandeliers and vast volumes, opening onto a panoramic view of the capital.

The suites with a view are among the most coveted in the palace: the Eiffel Tower Suite and the Penthouse Suite have private terraces directly overlooking the iconic monument, a rare privilege in Paris. The Penthouse, perched at the top of the hotel, features a sleek design and noble materials, creating a haven of serenity with an elegant living room and marble bathroom.

Finally, the Suite Parisienne recreates the atmosphere of a Haussmann-era apartment, with a spacious and bright living room, a refined bedroom and a generous dressing room, ideal for a long stay. Each suite combines prestige, comfort and bespoke service, for a total immersion in the George V lifestyle.

The George V spa, a haven of relaxation

Opened in 2018, the Four Seasons George V spa is a sanctuary of 720 m² entirely dedicated to relaxation and tailor-made treatments. Its elegant setting, also designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, combines classic inspirations and modern touches with subtle mosaics and carefully selected works of art. It offers a 17-metre indoor swimming pool, a vitality pool heated to 34°C with hydromassage jets, as well as six treatment rooms, including one for couples. Two separate steam rooms, a hairdressing salon and a menu of exclusive treatments complete this ultimate wellness experience. The spa has teamed up with three Swiss and French brands for its treatments: Dr Burgener, Suisse Perfection and Olivier Claire.

The 90 m² fitness centre is equipped with the latest sports technology, including treadmills, exercise bikes and weight training equipment. A seven-metre immersive screen plunges visitors into a natural setting that evolves with the seasons. Accessible 24 hours a day, the space is complemented by private lessons and personalised coaching, enabling each guest to achieve their goals in an exclusive setting.

Modular event spaces

The Four Seasons George V offers its guests several private rooms, designed to host meetings, seminars, private dinners and prestigious receptions. Each space is elegantly appointed with carved woodwork, crystal chandeliers and fine furnishings, while being equipped with the latest technology to meet professional and event needs.

The Salon Louis XIII, with its fireplace and cosy atmosphere, is ideal for confidential meetings or small group meals. The more spacious Salon Régence offers a configuration suitable for business meetings and private cocktail parties. The Salon Napoléon, with its majestic decor, can host more formal events, conferences or exceptional meals. Finally, the Salon Vendôme, bathed in natural light, is perfect for business lunches, presentations or daytime meetings.

These rooms are fully modular and can be arranged according to the specific needs of the guests, for example by being combined to accommodate 1,000 people. The service, provided by the palace team, guarantees a tailor-made and discreet service, with a culinary offer adapted to each event, signed by the chefs of the George V, or by service providers chosen by the hotel to satisfy the needs of its customers.

The Four Seasons George V stands out as a true symbol of Parisian luxury, offering much more than just a simple stay. Between its elegant architecture, comfortable rooms, Michelin-starred restaurants and impeccable service, the hotel is a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Each space and each experience is designed to enhance refinement and guarantee absolute comfort. A place where the French art of living comes into its own, making each visit an exceptional moment.
