Between new hotel openings, immersive activities and a growing appeal for individual tourism, the island is constantly reinventing itself to offer an unforgettable stay.

A constantly evolving hotel offering

The year 2024 marked a new stage in Jamaica's luxury hotel offering with the opening of Sandals Dunn's River in May. Located in Ocho Rios, this top-of-the-range establishment, known for its all-inclusive hotel offer, offers an immersive experience in a spectacular natural setting. It offers elegant suites with direct access to the beach, private pools for certain categories, and a spa where guests can enjoy treatments inspired by Jamaican traditions. Sandals Dunn's River is also renowned for its fine dining, with several restaurants offering a variety of culinary experiences, from Caribbean specialities to international cuisine. The Sandals Dunn's River joins a host of exceptional hotels already on the island, including prestigious addresses such as the Round Hill Hotel & Villas, a true icon of Jamaican luxury.

Nestled on a private peninsula in Montego Bay, Round Hill Hotel & Villas offers a unique experience with 36 rooms designed by Ralph Lauren and 27 private villas with swimming pools and lush gardens. Renowned chef Martin Ian Maginley uses local ingredients and fine cuisine, while the beachfront spa offers a wellness experience from British anti-ageing aromatherapy brand Elemis. Guests can also enjoy a hydrotherapy pool and yoga sessions with a breathtaking view of the ocean, guaranteeing absolute relaxation. Sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to do with Round Hill's tennis facilities and a professionally run training programme. The hotel was a favourite holiday retreat for JFK and Jackie Kennedy, who honeymooned in Villa 10 and rehearsed his inaugural speech by the pool in Villa 25.

The Half Moon, Salamander Collection, Montego Bay is the ultimate in Caribbean luxury, offering 210 sumptuously appointed rooms and suites, as well as 19 private villas. These spacious villas, ranging from five to seven bedrooms, offer breathtaking views of the ocean or lush gardens, with private pools, expansive outdoor living areas and dedicated staff including a private chef, butler and housekeeper. Available from April 2025, they promise an exclusive and refined experience. Guests can enjoy fine dining at the Sugar Mill Restaurant and several other on-site restaurants offering a fusion of Jamaican and international flavours. Half Moon is also home to the Fern Tree Spa, which offers holistic treatments, private treatment suites, a yoga pavilion and a relaxation pool. The hotel, a member of Legend Preferred Hotels & Resorts, also offers an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, an equestrian centre, tennis courts and a host of water sports activities. An ideal destination for travellers seeking excellence and relaxation in a heavenly setting.

The Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, nestled in a private cove along a 210-metre (700-foot) beach, is a luxury boutique hotel that has been charming travellers since the Morrow family bought it in 1958. It was its charm that attracted Marylin Monroe and Arthur Miller to the hotel for their honeymoon in 1957. This intimate establishment has 55 suites, bungalows and cottages, all with breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. With no television or radio, the experience is one of absolute relaxation, with spacious private verandas where only the sounds of the tropics lull guests to sleep. The hotel offers a gourmet open-air restaurant with daily changing menus. Its Ocean Spa, housed in huts, offers a host of different treatments, as well as yoga classes. The Jamaica Inn is also known for its black Labradors, known as 'Shadows', who have accompanied the hotel since the 1970s. The tradition began with Shadow I, and today visitors are warmly welcomed by Shadow V, who arrived in 2023.

The former home of Ian Fleming, the GoldenEye, an Island Outpost hotel, in Oracabessa is now a luxury sanctuary nestled between private lagoons and tropical gardens. This exclusive hotel offers 48 accommodations, including 9 Beach Villas, 2 Lagoon Villas, the Villa Vester, 7 Lagoon Cottages, as well as Beach Huts and private villas, including the legendary Fleming Villa, offering direct beach access and a private pool. Guests can enjoy fine dining at Bizot Bar or The Gazebo, take advantage of the FieldSpa nestled in a soothing natural setting, and explore the crystal clear waters with the many water sports activities on offer.

Perched in the majestic Blue Mountains, Strawberry Hill, an Island Outpost hotel, is a haven of peace that combines colonial charm and refinement. With its 12 wooden cottages, it offers a luxurious and intimate retreat, with spectacular panoramic views over Kingston and the Caribbean Sea. The restaurant celebrates local produce with cuisine inspired by Jamaican flavours. There is also a holistic spa nestled in lush greenery, where guests can enjoy relaxing treatments and yoga sessions in the midst of nature, creating a complete wellness experience.

Finally, Pompey by Diplo is an exclusive retreat designed by international artist Diplo. Nestled in 20 hectares of unspoilt rainforest. Pompey features a 2,000 sq ft (185m²) recording studio, offering an immersive experience for music lovers. Facilities include a wellness centre, yoga pavilion, as well as adventure activities such as horse riding and mountain biking, ensuring an unforgettable stay.

Growing interest in tailor-made tourism

Luxury travellers are increasingly looking for personalised, off-the-beaten-track experiences. Demand for self-guided tours is growing, allowing visitors to discover less-explored parts of the island.

Among the most popular destinations:
  1. Port Antonio, the island's greenest and most unspoilt region, is a true paradise for lovers of slow tourism. Some of Jamaica's most spectacular natural sites include the Blue Lagoon, Frenchman's Cove, the Blue Mountains and their coffee plantations, Reach Falls and Winnifred Beach. This region is also the cradle of authentic cultures, with the presence of the Rastafarian and Maroon communities, guardians of ancestral traditions and a way of life in harmony with nature.
  2. Kingston, the vibrant capital and UNESCO "Creative City of Music", is home to cultural treasures such as the Bob Marley Museum, Devon House and the effervescent Trench Town music scene. Kingston's Waterlane Art District is also home to hundreds of murals.
  3. The South Coast, prized for its wilderness and unspoilt landscapes, is perfect for an authentic getaway from the hustle and bustle of the tourist trade.
In Port Antonio, the hotels are more intimate, such as the Geejam Hotel, which boasts a recording studio that has hosted world-famous artists such as Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, Drake and Dua Lipa. Another unique option is Kanopi House, a haven of peace nestled in the heart of nature, where guests stay in cabins perched in the canopy.

Unique experiences in the heart of nature and history

Jamaica, that Taïnos called Xaymaca, which means “Land of wood and water”, is filled with natural wonders and a fascinating history. Jamaica is more than a beach destination: it is a genuine cultural and natural sanctuary.

With over 120 rivers and waterfalls, the island offers spectacular panoramic views and unique experiences. Its biodiversity is just as impressive, it is the home of over 320 plant species. This is a destination where luxury and authenticity meddle harmoniously. Tourists can expect a total immersion in the island’s nature and history, where every single piece of the landscape tells a fascinating story and offers immersive activities such as:
  • Bamboo rafting down crystal-clear rivers
  • Hiking in the Blue Mountains, home to some of the world’s best coffee, with tastings at local plantations, allowing you to learn about the growing and roasting process while enjoying a freshly brewed cup
  • Exploring hidden waterfalls and swimming in natural pools
  • Immersing yourself in Jamaican history and culture, including music, Rastafarian culture and Maroon traditions
  • Half Moon Hotel plays an active role in preserving local wildlife through its Turtle Conservation Program. Each year, the hotel’s beaches become a sanctuary for sea turtles that come to lay their eggs. Working with conservation experts, the hotel ensures the protection of the nests and organizes educational sessions to educate visitors on the importance of preserving these endangered species. During the season, guests even have the chance to witness the hatching of baby turtles, a magical moment when these little creatures join the ocean for the first time. An unforgettable experience, combining luxury and environmental commitment.
These experiences offer a unique connection to nature and the vibrant soul of the island, guaranteeing a stay that is as enriching as it is luxurious.

A booming tourism market

In 2024, Jamaica welcomed 4.3 million visitors, including 1.4 million cruise passengers. North America and England remain the main markets, but the island aims to develop its appeal to new customers, particularly in Latin America and Continental Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain). With its diversified offering and unique positioning, Jamaica has everything it needs to attract an ever-wider audience.

Air access to Jamaica

Several European cities offer direct flights to Jamaica, making it easier for travelers looking for a tropical escape to access the island.
Direct flights to Montego Bay from Europe:
  • Frankfurt with Condor
  • Zurich with Edelweiss (seasonal flight)
  • London Heathrow with Virgin Atlantic (in summer)
Via the United States with an arrival in Kingston or Montego Bay:
  • Atlanta with Delta Airlines / Air France
  • Miami with American Airlines
  • New York with JetBlue.
Thanks to these connections, Jamaica is accessible to European and international travellers in search of unique discoveries and experiences.

A trip where luxury rhymes with authenticity

If Jamaica stands out from other Caribbean destinations, it is thanks to its strong identity and its incredible cultural richness. With a global musical influence and unique traditions, the island offers an incomparable sensory and emotional experience. The three words of the tourist office to describe Jamaica? Vibe, identity, authenticity.

Whether for an exclusive seaside stay, an intense cultural immersion or an adventure in the heart of nature, Jamaica promises a luxurious trip that will remain etched in memories.
