Meliá Hotels International and Summum Hotel Group have signed a new agreement for the management of a five-star hotel owned by Grupo MGI, in Ronda, Andalousia. This is the third collaboration between the two groups, since Meliá has already entrusted the Mallorcan group with the management of two other Meliá Collection hotels in Mallorca.
The luxury hotel with just 27 rooms should live up to all its promises: a former convent, Convento Madre de Dios, the magnificent building was built in the middle of the 16th century in the heart of Ronda's historic center.
Renovation work will preserve the convent's many Mudejar, Gothic-Isabelline and Renaissance features.
The luxury hotel will feature a gourmet restaurant, swimming pool, gym, spa with aquatic area and sauna, as well as a function room suitable for all types of events.
Perched on top of a mountain and enclosed by walls, Ronda overlooks the impressive 170-metre-deep El Tajo gorge, where the Río Guadalevin flows. Its heritage is rich in historic monuments such as the Arab baths, the Plaza de Toros bullring, the first bullring built in Andalusia in 1784, and the Puente Nuevo, a 98-metre-high stone bridge spanning El Tajo.
It's also a popular destination for gourmets and wine lovers: the town is surrounded by vineyards and wineries.
Located just over 100 km from Malaga, and awarded the "Tourist Destination of Excellence" prize at the Andalusian Tourism Awards in 2023, the small town of 34,000 inhabitants welcomes 1.8 million visitors a year. It exceeded 400,000 overnight stays in 2022, more than half of which were international tourists.
