All roads lead to Roma, even if they are tortuous and circuitous. The path taken by Bvlgari since 2004 and its sensational entry into the world of luxury hotels could only lead to the Eternal City, where the jewellery brand was born thanks to the grace and gold smithing talent of Sotiros Voulgaris. Two months after opening its eighth store in Tokyo and entering the Japanese market, Bvlgari has chosen Rome as the venue for its latest addition, which opened on 9th June. It is destined to become the flagship of the group's hotel offering.

“The Bvlgari Hotel Roma is a real “temple” of luxury hospitality, embodying all the brand values such as exceptional craftsmanship, precious materials, Italian contemporary yet timeless design, excellence, and glamour. We envision [it] to shine as the ultimate luxury experience crafted by the Roman Jeweller of Hospitality in the Eternal City”, says Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari. An ambition for which the Italian brand has given itself the means.

114 rooms and suites in Roma's heart

Starting with its ideal location right in the heart of the city. Great history is to be found around every corner in the Italian capital. Bvlgari's new jewel has been installed opposite the mausoleum of Augustus, the first emperor of ancient Roma, and the Ara Pacis, a monument celebrating the peace brought by Augustus during his reign, just a stone's throw from the Tiber and in the immediate vicinity of the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. The link extends as far as the fountain, located in front of the entrance and topped by a phrase that reads: “Here is the place where the soul of the Emperor Augustus walks.”

Bvlgari has blended the modern with the ancient in a building constructed in the twentieth century between 1936 and 1938 by the architect Vittorio Ballio Morpugo, inaugurated in 1950 and recently renovated. The Italian architectural firm ACPV had to extend this marriage, both inside and out, installing an original statue of the Roman emperor in the entrance hall, borrowed from the Torlonia collection. The entire range of Italian expertise has been brought to bear, with the creation of mosaics in the bathrooms, Bvlgari-inspired tapestries and the use of Murano glass, an icon of the island near Venice, in various parts of the hotel.

In total, the hotel with its strong Italian identity will offer 114 rooms, the majority of which will be suites. The most impressive of these covers 300 square metres on the second floor, with a breathtaking view of the Mausoleum, and is decorated with famous works by the architect Antonio Citterio, tapestries by the Venetian manufacturer Rubelli and other surprises to discover. “[The Bulgari Hotel Roma] has definitely all the elements to become one of the best hotels in the world,” says General Manager Vincenzo Falcone, who previously worked at Bvlgari Milan.

A three-star chef in the kitchen

On the restaurant front, Bvlgari continues to place its trust in Niko Romito. The three-star chef has imagined the culinary identity of the hotel's five restaurants, as he has done for the brand's hotels since 2017. The traditional Il Ristorante – Niko Romito once again takes the best place on the 5th floor of the building. Its dining room, decorated with works of art from the jeweller's collection, opens onto a terrace overlooking Piazza Augusto Imperatore. For the more discreet, there is a private area for 12 people, decorated in the colours of the 12 signs of the zodiac.

The Bvlgari bar is on the same floor and promises to be spectacular, all black marble and Murano crystal. Finally, on the roof, La Terrazza enchants guests with its breathtaking panoramic view of the Roman city. There is also a garden featuring almost 200 indigenous plants. Closer to the ground, on the first floor, the Lobby Lounge and Il Caffé offers a more traditional service. What's new is Bvlgari Dolci, the Group's first pastry shop, which features chocolate creations and a selection of specialities from La Pasticceria – Niko Romito.

The experience wouldn't be complete without a decent wellness area. Bvlgari has opted for a fitness centre and, above all, a 1,500 square meter spa worthy of the ancient baths, with marble columns surrounding the swimming pool.

For its Roman setting, Bvlgari has brought together all its expertise and drawn on the experience it has acquired over 19 years to offer the very best in Italian luxury. “With my team, I commit to provide our guests the best experience of service and hospitality,” says Vincenzo Falcone before the opening last Friday, 9th June. This ninth jewel will not be the last, as the jeweller will open two new hotels in 2025 in the Maldives and Miami, before Los Angeles the following year.
